Choose the technology before the product
For a conductive water or wastewater line that remains full, electromagnetic measurement is usually the first technology to evaluate. The project team should specify the pipe diameter, operating flow range, liquid conductivity, available power, installation orientation, lining and electrode considerations, and the required output to the control or billing system. For a water main, network or irrigation application, the exact meter body and transmitter configuration need to match the pipe and operating conditions.
For a completed pipe where an interruption is not practical, a clamp-on ultrasonic option can avoid cutting into the line when the pipe and liquid conditions are suitable. Transit-time equipment is normally evaluated for suitable clean liquids.
