How to choose between transit-time, Doppler and area-velocity
Transit-time instruments are normally considered for suitable clean liquids in full pipes because the measurement depends on sound travelling through the liquid between transducers. Where the liquid contains solids or bubbles, Doppler technology may be more appropriate because it uses reflectors in the liquid. For a channel, a partially full sewer or a non-full pipe, an area-velocity approach can measure the flow condition without treating the application as a conventional full-pipe meter.
Installation is equally important. Clamp-on products can be useful when stopping the line or cutting into the pipe is undesirable. A portable instrument is appropriate for surveys, troubleshooting, commissioning or temporary verification. A fixed instrument is better suited when a continuous measurement point is required. Before quotation, provide photographs of the pipe or channel and describe the available straight run, access and mounting limitations.

Can you select a model from pipe size alone?
Pipe size is essential but not enough by itself. We also need the pipe material, wall thickness, liquid condition, temperature, whether the pipe is full and the required installation approach. For an open channel, share the channel geometry or flume or weir details.
What outputs should be included in the enquiry?
Tell us whether the meter must only provide a local display or connect to another system. Include the required analogue, pulse, relay, data logging or digital communication requirement so the proposed configuration is suitable for the project.
Can a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter be used on wastewater?
