Modern plastics are not an “inferior” substitute but a high-performance alternative to stainless steel for level measurement in aggressive environments. When dealing with acidic and corrosive media, traditional high-nickel alloy steels are costly, difficult to source, and complex to process. Plastics offer a cost-effective solution for low-pressure, low-temperature applications, delivering durability, chemical resistance, and efficiency.
For industries handling acids and harsh chemicals, PVC, polypropylene (PP), and PVDF provide an excellent alternative to expensive alloys. These materials ensure safe and accurate level measurement, while maintaining resistance to corrosion and long-term stability.
WEKA offers a variety of floats made from PVC, PP, and PVDF, designed to accommodate different operating conditions, ensuring precise level indication for diverse applications.
Highly alloyed nickel steel is typically required for battery acid resistance, making the process expensive. However, a PP-based magnetic visual level indicator provides a more affordable and effective solution. This is the same principle used in car battery housings, which are made from chemical-resistant plastics for durability and safety.
While plastics offer superior corrosion resistance, they are not suitable for explosive environments (ATEX/IECEx) due to static charge buildup, which could create ignition risks.
WEKA’s plastic level indicators are available with flange or threaded connections, chosen based on pressure/temperature (p/T) diagrams. A wide variety of gauge bars and custom float selections ensure compatibility with specific process requirements.
